Forensic Accountant Visit

On Nov. 17, College Accounting students were afforded the opportunity to listen to forensic accountant, Michelle Gagnon. As a forensic accountant for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), she explained that her priorities include protecting the US from terrorist attacks, cyber-criminal activity, protecting civil rights and combating significant white-collar crime.

During her visit, Gagnon explained the various types of cases her team deals with, which include money laundering, organized crime, counterterrorism, and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC.) She explained a recent case she worked on that involved OFAC, which enforces economic sanctions programs primarily against countries.

Finally, she explained the necessary qualifications and skills needed to become a forensic accountant.  Students really enjoyed learning about her career and appreciated the real-life examples that relate to what they are learning in class.
